Curriculum & Systems Design

Redesigning learning for creativity, equity, and real-world relevance.

In every classroom I’ve ever walked into from Ghana to Harvard I’ve seen the same truth: education systems are often designed for compliance, not creativity. But what if learning could feel like discovery again?

As a curriculum designer and systems thinker, I help schools, nonprofits, and cultural institutions reimagine how we design learning, especially for children who are often misjudged, misunderstood, or left behind by traditional models. My work lives at the intersection of creativity, cultural responsiveness, and universal design for learning (UDL).

Learning That Reflects Life

My approach is grounded in a simple but radical belief:

Who we’re educating should shape how we educate.

I’ve spent the last decade designing arts-based, inclusive curricula that respond to the needs, environments, and lived realities of students, especially those from low-income communities, learners who learn differently, and children labeled as “difficult.”

From repurposing everyday materials like recycled bottles, fabric, and cardboard to teach problem-solving and life skills, to guiding students in curating community art exhibitions that invite families and neighbors into the learning process, my work helps learners connect their world to what’s happening in the classroom.

Programs I’ve Designed

  • K-14 African Studies Curriculum at the Harvard Center for African Studies
→ Integrating art, history, and storytelling to enrich global understanding in U.S. classrooms

  • Creative Roots – Arts-integrated learning design for Deeper Learning Schools
→ Developed in response to challenges faced by educators in Newark, NJ, this project helps teachers use creative strategies to make math, science, and literacy more accessible and joyful.

  • Alternative Homeschool Curriculum for Expelled Students
→ Designed for learners whose needs weren’t met by the system, using UDL principles to restore dignity and engagement

  • Community-Based Curriculum for Low-Income communities in Ghana & Nigeria
→ Rooted in local resources, recycled materials, and life skills, this program fosters critical thinking and creativity using what students already have access to

  • Professional Development & Educator Training
→ Workshops that guide teachers in arts integration, inclusive instruction, and culturally responsive design

My Guiding Principles

  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) → I design with flexibility and access at the core, not as an afterthought

  • Arts Integration → Creativity isn’t added later — it’s built in

  • Cultural Relevance → Learning should affirm identity and lived experience

  • Cultural Responsiveness → Curriculum must adapt to the sociocultural context of learners — acknowledging their histories, honoring their voices, and evolving with their needs.

  • System-Level Thinking → I build bridges between policy and practice, helping teams reimagine what’s possible within their context

Why This Work Matters

I design with children in mind, not just as students, but as humans navigating complex lives. My work asks:
What do learners need not just to pass, but to participate?
Not just to perform, but to problem-solve?
Not just to sit still, but to stand in their power?

If you're a school, educator, policymaker, or organization seeking to reimagine what learning looks like, I’d love to explore what we can build together.
